Do Subaru Models Hold Their Value?

An important aspect to consider when buying a car is whether or not it will hold its value. Every new vehicle depreciates substantially the second it is driven off the lot, but some brands and models hold theirs better and longer than others do.

So do Subaru models hold their value?

Absolutely. In fact, Subaru is one of the best brands on the market for long-term value. And that's not just our opinion: ALG, one of the authorities in the car industry, shares that view.

Subaru just won 2019's ALG's "Residual Value Award" and "Pre-Owned Value Award," both in the Mainstream Brand category. Those awards aren't just thrown around: They only go to one mainstream and one premium brand each year.

And the individual models were recognized by ALG as well. Two models, the Subaru Forester and Subaru Outback, received awards for Pre-Owned Value in the Compact Utility and Midsize Utility 2nd Row Seating categories, respectively. In the Residual Value awards, five Subaru models won their categories: the Forester and Outback in the same categories they won for residual value, plus the Impreza for Compact Car, the WRX for Sportscar, and the Crosstrek for Subcompact Utility.

Why Do Subaru Models Hold Their Value?

There's a number of reasons why Subaru models maintain their value over time. Their excellent, quality construction means they won't be falling apart years down the road. Their incredible all-wheel drive systems are in high demand in places like here, the Minneapolis area, where road conditions get rough. And their reliable Boxer engines keep ticking for hundreds of thousands of miles.

Plus, there's always demand for them, even used. People who drive Subaru cars love them, and will gladly buy another once it's time for their next vehicle, and will happily buy a used Subaru as a cheaper alternative or as a car for their child, because they know it's a vehicle they can trust.
